The
word Chakra is Sanskrit for wheel or disk. A Chakra indicates
one of seven basic energy centers in the body. Each of these centers
corresponds to a major nerve ganglia branching originating at
the spinal column.
Also, the Chakras correspond to levels of consciousness, archetypal
elements, life stages, sounds, colors, bodily functions, etc.
The Chakras can have several levels of activity. When open, they
are operating normally.
Ideally,
all chakras contribute to our well being and lead to a state of
harmony between mind, body and spirit.
However, often one or more of the chakras are not fully open and
are under-active. The ideal is a suitable balance of all seven chakras.
There are many therapies to restore such balance.
Below is a
brief description of each chakra:
Chakra
Seven
:
Universal identity
and thought pointed towards self-knowledge. It is the crown chakra
relating to consciousness as pure awareness. It is our connection
to the other world, to a timeless, spaceless place of all-knowing.
When fully open, this chakra brings us knowledge, wisdom, bliss
understanding, and spiritual connection.
Chakra
Six :
Light,
Archetypal identity, pointing towards self-reflection. This chakra
is known as the brow chakra or third eye center. It is related to
the act of seeing, both physically and intuitively. As such it opens
our psychic faculties and our understanding of archetypal levels.
When fully open it allows us to see clearly.
Chakra Five :
Sound,
Creative identity, pointing towards self-expression. This is the
chakra located in the throat and is thus related to communication
and creativity. At this location we experience the world through
vibration, such as the vibration of speech.
Chakra
Four :
Air, Social identity, pointing towards self-acceptance. This chakra
is called the heart chakra and is the middle chakra in a system
of seven. It is related to love and is the integrator of opposites
in the psyche: mind and body, male and female, etc. A fully open
fourth chakra allows us to love deeply, feel compassion, and have
a deep sense of peace.
Chakra Three :
Fire, Ego identity, pointing towards self-definition.
This chakra is known as the power chakra, located in the solar plexus.
It rules our personal power, will, and autonomy, as well as our
metabolism. When fully open the third chakra brings us spontaneity,
energy, effectiveness and benign power.
Chakra Two :
Water,
Emotional identity, pointing towards self-gratification. This chakra
is located in the abdomen, lower back, and sexual organs, and is
related to the element water, and to emotions and sexuality. It
connects us to others through feeling, desire, sensation, and movement.
When fully open this chakra brings us fluidity and grace, depth
of feeling, sexual fulfillment, and the ability to accept change.
Chakra
One :
Earth, Physical identity, pointing towards self-preservation. This
chakra is located at the base of the spine and forms our foundation.
It represents the element earth, and is tied to our survival instincts
and to our sense of grounding. Fully open the first chakra brings
us health, prosperity, security, and dynamic presence.
